As you probably know hurricane season is upon us, and certain states are experiencing intense storms more than others. The closer you are to the ocean, the more at risk you are for hurricane damage. C3 American Exteriors works with multiple states that border the ocean. These States include Maryland, Delaware, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Since these four states border the ocean, it is important to keep in mind how to protect your roof if you live in one of these, especially if you are right near, or on, the beach.
So, how should you prepare yourself for hurricane season? If you live in Maryland, Delaware, South Carolina, or North Carolina, what can you do to make sure your roof, and your home in general, are as safe as possible from hurricanes? Let’s take a look at three tips:
- Check your gutters- We often remind you of this important tip, and there is a reason we do so. If your gutters are clogged or broken, they cannot properly direct water away from your roof. This can lead to water building up on top of your home and causing leaks and damage.
- Keep up with inspections- Having a yearly inspection can help to stay on top of any possible pre-existing damage. If your shingles are broken or bent in any way, it may be time to replace your roof or simply path up the problem. Staying up to date with roofing maintenance can keep you better protected during hurricanes and other natural disasters.
- Maintain your trees- If you have trees next to your home, or branches that hang over your roof, you may be more at risk for damage. Trees can easily fall over and branches can break. In addition, tree branches can scrape at the top of your roof, damaging shingles. If you think you may need to cut down or trim a tree, make sure this is taken care of.
As always, if you live in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and North Carolina, and have any questions about roofing, siding, gutters, exterior remodeling, storm damage, or windows and doors, give us a call so we can help you out!
