Winter is officially here! We hope you are bundling up and staying warm. Winter weather has its perks, and snow is always fun to play in, but the same season can bring along storms.
One of these more intense storms is known as Nor’easters. These take place in the East Coast of North America, carrying winds in from the north east. The strong winds are created by warm ocean water mixing with cold air. Nor’easters can include heavy snowfall, intense rain, blizzards, floods, hail, and so much more. You can see why weather like this can be so damaging.
If you live on the East Coast of North America, there are precautions you can take to maximize your safety and keep your home in good shape. Let’s take a look at some of the best options you have for protecting your house:
- Have your roof and siding inspected for pre existing damage. Now is a great time to have a roof inspection. If you do happen to have damage, or if it is time to replace an old roof or siding, doing so before bad storms ensures extra protection, and better insulation during cold weather, for your home.
- Check your gutters. Are they clogged or broken? If your gutters are damaged, it is time for new ones. If they need to be unclogged, now is the time to do so. Without proper gutters, you will be exposing yourself to the possibility of leaks and ice dams.
- Take care of your trees! If you need to trim your branches, now is the time to do so. If a tree is hanging over your house, or if you have a dead tree, make adjustments now to fix the situation. Trees can fall onto your home and cause damage. Long branches can also break or scratch at your roof and siding, damaging them. The sooner you fix them, the better.
